7 Ways to Stay Warm at a Winter Wedding | Lake Tahoe Winter Wedding

Winter weddings are beautiful. Some brides wish for snow so they can capture the pure essence of winter in their wedding photographs. But for guests, it means having to venture out in the cold, which is not always fun.

When you’re getting ready to go to a winter wedding, make sure to remember these simple tips so you can have fun, without freezing.

Choose an appropriate dress

Don’t reach for the short, black strapless number you have hanging in your closet. Pick a long dress in a thicker fabric or a short dress that looks great with leggings. Velvet dresses are classic, stylish and comfortable options for winter weddings. Other warm fabrics include stretch jersey and silk.

Cover up

Short and long-sleeve dresses are smarter options than ones with spaghetti straps. But if your options are limited, make sure to add a coverup, such as a bolero, shawl, wrap or coatee, to your outfit to keep your arms and shoulders warm. Remember, you don’t have to wear it all night, once you start dancing, you can easily remove it as you warm up.

Add an extra layer of protection

Yes, they do make thermal underwear, leggings and bodysuits that can go under your dress. So pick up a pair if they will be well-concealed under your outfit. A base layer will go a long way to making you feel snug.

Protect your feet

Skip the peep-toe pumps and sandals and pick up suede booties or knee-high leather boots. Booties look great with tights and short dresses, and knee-high boots work well when paired with longer dresses.

Get creative with accessories

Let’s not forget to put on gloves and a scarf before we leave the house. It’s also a good idea to pack a lightweight pashmina scarf in your purse in case it’s cold in the church or reception hall.

Pick the perfect coat

Remember to wear a coat best suited for the wedding and the weather. A simple wool-blend coat in a solid color or a lush faux fur option allow you to keep out the cold without sacrificing style.

And let’s not forget the men!

Although, it’s easier for them to layer up in stay warm, make sure they come prepared too. Gloves, a scarf and nice wool coat are all accessories that he should be wearing on the wedding day.

If you follow these winter wedding rules, you should be warm and ready to party.
